Species lilies are the wild flowers of the lily world, and as such, each has its own unique needs and growing conditions. Some of these are easy to grow, some are more difficult - all are worth the effort. With the purchase of each species lily, we will provide specific growing instructions. species Henryi Easy! As many as 30 nodding tangerine recurved flowers bloom mid-late summer on arching purplish stems from 1.2M-3M. Named for Irish plant explorer Augustine Henry, discoverer of the species in central China. Lime tolerant, grow in moist, well-drained soil in part shade. Blooms late July-Aug. Height: 5'-8'!

species Regale One of the first lilies to capture the interest if the western world, l. regale has been the most important strain for hybridizers. A hardy, carefree lily, l. regale multiplies readily and produces a multitude of fragrant blooms on strong stems in late July- August. Height: 48".

species Speciosum var. Rubrum One of the latest blooming lilies, the down facing flower is a soft pink with darker pink midribs and a delicate white/green throat. Lots of dark pink freckles.

species Tenufolium It's back! Better known as l.pumilum , which means "dwarf". Although the bulb only will last for a few years, l.pumilum is prolific, quick to flower from seed and easy stock to maintain. Lots of grassy foliage with wiry stems holding many brilliant, waxy red nodding flowers that are fully recurved and down facing. Grows well in full sun, well drained soil and is lime-tolerant. Average Height: 24"-36", though occasionally up to 4'!

MARTAGONS
These dainty flowers are gaining popularity again. Preferring light shade, martagons are a perfect choice for naturalizing at the woodland edge, or in the cottage garden. They will tolerate some lime, and have a tendency to go walk-about! Be patient - martagons often take a year or two to bloom and really don't like being moved. If they like their location, they will naturalize, reaching a height of up to 2M., and covered with many delicate re-curving flowers. Zone 4
MATAGON Martagon This is a lovely little lily with a bad case of wanderlust! You can plant it in a carefully selected location only to have it pop up in a spot nearby! Slow to get started, once l. martagon decides it's happy it will reward with as many as fifty rosy-purple dangling flowers per stem! Height 60"-70".
